Toradora Portable

Hong Kong blogger Fongyou (馮友) has revealed that a new Toradora game will be released for the PSP. What kind of a game can a romantic comedy make?

Toradora Portable! is a spin-off PSP game based on the popular anime Toradora! airing at the moment, which is in turn an adaptation of the original light novel. According to Fongyou, the story starts off with Ryuji (the main character) having an amnesia and forgets who he is. This way his relationship with all other characters are reset, and he can choose which girl he wants to go with, creating a typical harem setting.

So far only Taiga, Minori, and Ami are announced in terms of female characters.

The gameplay will be pretty similar to a typical visual novel, i.e. interacting with characters and making choices. The game will also have a 3D map for Ryuji to roam around to find characters or to trigger events.

The game will also feature the TORA system (Technical Operated Real Animation), where there's Taiga for you to interact with (this is also mentioned on Danny Choo). That's pretty much the same as the S.O.S. system on PSP game Suzumiya Haruhi no Yakusoku (The Promise of Haruhi Suzumiya) from the same company.

Along with the regular release, there's also the limited Premium set, which includes a fanbook, a DVD with anime scenes not shown on TV, a pouch, and a PSP stand (I think). All this costs a whopping 9800 Yen, which is nearly twice as much as the regular release (5229 Yen)...

And last but not least, those who preorder either the regular release or the premium set will also have a Nendoroid Taiga swinsuit ver. figure as well. It looks like that Good Smile Company and Max Factory does a lot of exclusive this and that recently. :o

While I haven't watched Toradora, the anime seems to be pretty popular at the moment. As for the game itself, I do not know how well a visual novel usually fares, but this game will be targeted to the Toradora fans, and it will be released on April 30th, soon after the anime finishes airing. So, are you interested?

I don't even own a PSP so this is kinda out of the question for me ^^;;

  1. That's awesome! Toradora is a very relaxing series to watch. So, hopefully the game will be fun, also. But wait, I don't have a PSP T_T.

  2. I dont own a PSP so the game is out of the question.Wouldnt be released over here anyway.

    I wonder why its limited to the PSP only? Sounds to me like any Console could handle a VN type of game.

    BTW:I bet this game will suck

  4. I know trying to get the figure itself will be hard and expensive as well let alone the rarity it will become.

    No PSP as I have a DS so it's out of my question as well. lol

  6. @ M12:
    Sounds good. I may watch the whole series after it finishes airing.

    @ AstrayP03:
    Release date is 30th April. It won't be easy to play a visual novel if you can't read, as you won't understand what's really going on plot-wise. :o

    @ Blowfish:
    I don't really know how successful a visual novel that's based on an anime or a light novel, as it's usually the other way round. It's pretty much targeted for the fans afterall so I can't say much about it.

    @ Optic:
    GSC and Max Factory have been making quite a few exclusive figures recently. It's kinda annoying for the fans who can't access to them.

    @ James:
    Perhaps you can somehow get it imported; PSP games are not region locked right?

  7. Any import game store will have it, such as ncsx.com - I go to them for just about anything.

    PSP games are not region locked luckily so your US PSP will have no issue playing Japanese or Asian region games. In fact...4 out of my 5 PSP games are from Japan.

  8. I'm already importing all my games , what i was saying is that the game will never have an official us release , so the game will stay in japanese .

    So the game is of no use for me at all :) (at least that type of game , hard to play when you can't understand a word ^^)

    Western PSP games don't seem to be as attractive as the Japanese ones for most of the time IMO, could this be due to a smaller variety of genre available? :\

    @ James:
    The anime hasn't been licensed by other companies (yet), so the game getting ported to USA is even slimmer.

    So yea, unless you're good at Japanese, playing a visual novel in Japanese will be pretty hard for you ^^;;

  10. I'd say so Q. Western PSP games focus on main-stay titles where as in Japan, a vast variety of titles are available, including many Gundam titles!

  11. @ Apt-1B:
    While I don't own a PSP, the only Western games I tend to see on PSPs are usually sports oriented, otherwise not a lot tend to raise my attention, or they are Japanese.
